Versailles with Guest Writer Marty

 Hello Lizzie and friends!

If you didn't already guess, this is Marty guest writing about our day trip to Versailles. Our Versailles tour began at at 11:50, so naturally, we had to wake up at 7:00 AM to make it there on time. After we got ready for the day, we didn't want to take a bunch of time looking for a breakfast place so we decided to just do the breakfast buffet offered by our hotel. It was a great buffet, and the tables were on an enclosed bubble on the sidewalk and had an amazing view of the Arc, it was a really nice way to start the morning.

We then hopped on the subway where we had to make a transfer to the trains that went a bit farther out of the city. We found the right one and off we went. The nice thing about these trains is that they weren't really crowded because they were leaving the city and we were a bit after rush hour anyway.

Versailles felt pretty suburban as we walked through the city, I'm sure people who live in downtown Paris consider it the suburbs. There were lots of nice townhomes and it wasn't very busy. We had great weather today and so we made our way to the Paris LDS temple in brisk temperatures at a brisk pace. Walking in the cool sunshine felt amazing.

When we made it to the temple, we found out that it was transfer day for the missionaries, and we wouldn't be able to see Lizzie's friend. We went in to the visitor's center to check it out and a very friendly lady who we found out was the wife of the director of the visitor's center, gave us the full blown tour. She spoke French and Portuguese and Spanish, but her English was pretty limited. Even though we weren't planning on the full tour, it still ended up being nice. The gardens there were very pretty.

After the temple, we went to meet our tour guide for Versailles. We were in a guided tour group with like 25 or so people. It was really cool to learn about some of the history behind the castle. As for the castle itself, it really is incredible. Nothing like that could ever be built today.

In the evening, after we had made it back from Versailles and did our laundry, we went to dinner in the only office tower in Paris. The restaurant was on the 56th floor, and we had a straight on view of the Eiffel tower. The food here was amazing, and this was probably my favorite meal of the trip. I also ordered a mocktail, which made Lizzie pretty nervous that they would bring me out an alcoholic drink instead and that I would be too tipsy to get us home on the train. Thankfully, there was either no alcohol, or I can hold my liquor very well, and in either case we made it home just fine. Thanks for reading!
