Lady Liberty

This morning we made our way to the Statue of Liberty! Visiting the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island is on my "must do" in NYC list. 

Spoiler alert: It was amazing.

Statue of Liberty:

I really enjoyed the Statue of Liberty. It was so beautiful to see all the details on Lady Liberty--especially the fabric on her dress. The way they made the copper look like it was real fabric was insane to me. 

Our tickets allowed us access to the pedestal. It was cool, but I wouldn't feel the need to do it again. If I were to go back I would like to go in the crown! Unfortunately if you have kids with you, you can't do it. Otherwise, we would've done it this time.

Funny enough, Emi was sad that she couldn't go in the crown. She told me when I put her to bed tonight that she was going to dream about going in the Statue of Liberty's crown. hahah. She also requested that Marty and I take her back to the Statue of Liberty for her birthday!

Another funny tid-bit from our trip is that Emi was really excited to go on the boat because last time, when we went on the Staten Island Ferry, I got her a donut from Dunkin Donuts (they have Dunkin on the ferry). I hadn't remembered, but she brought it up immediately! Unfortunately for her, there were no Dunkin Donuts on the Statue City Cruises boats.

Ellis Island:

We unfortunately did not have much time for Ellis Island. I would love to spend a whole day there. I just think Ellis Island is so interesting, and I want to learn more! 

I did take the citizenship quiz, and got a 5/10 (cringe). Marty got, you know, a 10/10. 

Details to remember for next time:
-Getting an early time slot worked out great. Also, buy the tickets through Statue City Cruises (the official vendor). I learned this when I was purchasing online.
-Junior Ranger Program is so cute for kids.
-10 min movie at Statue of Liberty is great.
-Crown Access 
-~5 hour trip on non rush hour times
-Ellis Island/Statue of Liberty on separate days depending on the crowd?

On our way home, my parents and I stopped at Kossars, Levains, and Janie's Life Changing Baked Goods to grab food/treats for all of us. Marty took the girls home and put Macy to bed. She took the most amazing nap!

I got asked to play the violin at a baptism last minute, and so I decided to rope my mom into accompanying me. In the evening all of us headed to said baptism on the East Side. Upon arriving, we discovered I had made a tactical error and the baptism isn't happening until tomorrow. Oops!

We made a stop at Cava, where Emi ate more at dinner than she has in a very long time (that in itself made the trip worth it), and then we headed home while my parents headed down to Operation Mincemeat. What a day!

3 am Prayer

This week has been rough for our family. We've all been sick with bad sore throats and coughs and it seems like there's no end in sight. Add on that it's quarter end (Marty's busy season), and we've been barely surviving. I think I'd be horrified if I added up the total time Emi and I have sat watching shows this week. Easter 2025

Easter 2025 was one for the books. I spoke in church about how the events of Easter have impacted my faith and I was really nervous about it, but I think it went well! I got the sweetest text from one of my YW's moms after I spoke that made my whole day.  After church we had Kimber and Drew and the boys over for an Easter egg hunt and brunch, and then in the evening we went to Andrea and Dan M.'s house for dinner. I was companions with their daughter, Kenzie, on the mission. They had an Easter egg hunt set up for Emi and another friend's kiddos and made the yummiest Easter spread. Andrea asked that we not bring anything and just enjoy the meal! She is an angel. Isn't this bow just so cute?! Emi with her little church besties. They're moving this summer too (the opposite direction of us), and we will miss them! I love our fam so much! Can't wait for baby #2 to join the crew. Emi's other besties! She loves Bowen and baby Brye.

2024

2024. I didn't see you coming at all. This has been the wildest year. Hard, frustrating, discouraging, exciting, and hopeful. It's been a year of growth. At the beginning of the year Marty and I had been hoping to get pregnant for a few months and it wasn't panning out as expected. I figured I'd be pregnant within the first few months of the new year, but nope. God had other plans. I was called as YW President in January (a shock to everyone including me!) and that consumed a lot of my time and energy throughout the year. It's been a rewarding experience.  I started weight training for the first time in my life and discovered that I really loved it. Last December, HR closed their rec center childcare and I was crushed because that meant I could no longer go to their daytime classes. I thought nothing could compare to those classes.
