Recovering

Image
Emi and I canceled our usual plans today to give her body time to fight off her sickness.  Emi and I grabbed lunch at Mod Market today. So yummy! Relaxing on the couch.

Sick again?

This morning I noticed Emi had a bit of a runny nose and maybe the start of a cold, but when we got home from church she was acting pretty sick. Puffy eyes, runny nose, the start of the cough. Sickness seems to be following us as of recent!

Art

Image
The highlight of our day was going over to Kimber and Drew B.'s house. While Bowen and Emi played (and Brye chilled), Kimber, Drew, Marty, and I drew pictures of our S.O. without letting our spouse see. You can see that art is not one of Marty's and my talents. hahaha.  Although, Emi saw the picture Marty drew of me and said "mama" so there's that.

Temple

Image
Emi and I went from our workout class this morning to Clement Park for a walk with friends. They have a bunch of prairie dogs there and they're all so cute! Emi repping her Nuggets shirt. Go Nuggets! Rip Kobe iykyk. In the evening, Marty and I were able to go to the temple for a date night. It was pouring rain, and at one point in the session the lights flickered, but everything ended up being fine. I'm glad we went!

Thriving

Image
Welp. The bowel issues have continued, but now Emi has them too! haha. Let's just say one of us pooped in the shower and the other pooped our pants. So we're thriving over here! Please enjoy these cute pictures of Emi: All of Emi's violin exposures have worked. She loved plucking the ukulele. In the evening I went to my friends' book club. We read one of my favorite books, "The Help." Can you guess what was for dessert? Pie!

Learning

Image
Last afternoon/evening I started feeling a bit funky and woke up with some stomach bowel issues this morning. I'm thinking eating 20 pieces of pie 2 days ago was not the move. haha.  Even though I didn't feel the best, I tried to keep our day busy to make it go by a little faster.  Here are some highlights: In the morning, Emi and I went to My Gym. They had bubbles today, and Emi was entertained for about 2 minutes, before she decided that playing near the balance beam would be more fun than looking at bubbles. It was cracking me up that every single child was by the bubbles and Emi was like "meh." (Even though she says "bubbles" all the time.) After My Gym we came home and hung out for a bit, and then Emi and I both took a 2 hour nap! I woke up in the middle of my nap, frantic, thinking I had fallen asleep without knowing and that Emi was just wandering through the house. Luckily, that was not the case and she was sound asleep. In the afternoon I FaceTimed

Quack Quack

Image
The view from my window is so pretty with all the blossoms on the trees.! It's the best view to wake up (after pushing back our black out curtains. Because you know Marty has to have everything pitch black when he sleeps;)). After our morning gym routine, we went to the park with Summer and Jules while Ronny was at preschool. Emi LOVED the duck. Saying "quack quack" is one of her favorite things. I woke Emi up from her nap to go to my family history lesson with Bob L., Deanna B., and Kate D.. I never thought I'd be waking my baby up to go do family history! But it was totally worth it and I loved getting to catch up with everyone and find a new ancestor and merge another.  In the evening we went to the mall and I got some new shoes (Berks and Sorels)! While I was shopping, Marty went on the escalators with Emi. Marty is the cutest dad! Today was also my mom's birthday! My mom is one of my best friends. She's a go-getter and so easy to talk to. She's there

Pie Night

Image
Emi and I have our shower routine. We always go grab her diaper and towel before heading to Marty's and my room to shower. Today she carried her towel and diaper all by herself. When did my baby get so old? In the evening, I went to pie night with some people I knew from the ward and others that I just met there. The spread was incredible--there were close to 20 pies. I tried a tiny sliver of all the pies and they were sooo yummy. But before pie night, we made Muddy Buddies to deliver to a family tomorrow! Emi loves being a helper.

Teething

Image
Emi did way better today! I guess she really was just teething.  Dad rocking Emi.

Teething?

Today was rough. Emi woke up in the middle of the night last night, but woke up cheery this morning. We went to Costco, got ready for the day, chilled, and headed to her friend Charlie's 1st Birthday party. She slept on the way there, and was doing okay when we initially got to the party but then she started crying and being fussy and extra sensitive. We ended up leaving the party early, and headed back home. After that, we put her down for a nap, and she only slept a little bit before waking up hysterical again. We couldn't make her happy no matter what we seemed to do. We even tried calling grandparents (which normally does the trick) but nothing was working! I know I said this in my post yesterday, but it's just so out of character for her. The rest of the day was on and off with her being okay and then not okay. We watched a bit of Miss Rachel again which helped her stay calm (it's so interesting how she's totally fine when she's watching her videos) and tri

Bubbles and Miss Rachel

Ever since we got Emi her outside Little Tykes car, she has been found walking around the house saying "car" at all times of day. She'll also grab her shoes and bring them to you to let you know she's ready to go outside and play in her car. This morning was no different. Even though it was raining, I caved and we went and played with her car. She was laughing her head off pushing it down our driveway. She was making me laugh! Because our driveway is angled downward, even though she's "pushing" the car, it's really pulling her too which she thinks is soo fun.  After we got done playing with her car, we headed to library story time. It was there that I realized Emi had sat in her wet, rainy car and her bum was soaked...sorry, Emi! At story time, Emi went to the front and center (she is a social bug!) and repeatedly said "bubbles" to the lady leading the story time.haha. Finally, the lady said "We'll do bubbles later" but Emi

I brought someone with me to running club this week! Little explorer. Some cute kiddos. We couldn't get Emi and Easton to look at the camera at the same time. haha.

OOTD

Emi came up with this outfit combo all by herself.haha.

Young Women's Class

Image
We needed a teacher for our YWs lesson last minute, so I spent yesterday evening figuring out how to teach Jacob 5. Thanks to my mom for helping provide the structure for my lesson. haha. I thought it went well but I got weepy as usual. I just hope the girls took something from the lesson--I think about and pray for them often and just want them to feel loved. Those teenage years can be really challenging! In the afternoon we went to the park.  We hurried back from the park and went over to dinner with some friends from our ward (Karin and Jeff H. Family and Andrea and Matt P. Family). We had the yummiest spaghetti and meatballs and salads. Marty and I also brought trifle and I think it was a hit! In addition to the food;), it was nice getting to know everyone there better. We have such a wonderful ward here!

Climbing and Celebration

Image
This morning we headed to Morrison to go climbing with our friends, Amanda and Logan D. None of us had gone to this rock climbing wall before, so it was a bit surprising when we got there to find that you had to climb up a steep path to get to the wall. We made the trek up with Emi, but after getting up to the wall, there was only about 10 feet of "safe space" for a toddler to play without tumbling down the steep hill so Emi and I headed down while Marty, Amanda, and Logan climbed. In the afternoon we went to Texas Roadhouse to celebrate Marty passing Level 3 of the CFA. Emi ate more than we've ever seen her eat! She loved the rolls, corn, and mashed potatoes. It was a perfect meal getting to enjoy our family and good food.

Music

Image
My friend, Annie, does music classes twice a month. She does such a good job and Emi and I both look forward to going each class. I captured this picture of Emi walking around with a scarf on her head. She doesn't like when I put bows in her hair, but she is okay with a scarf over her head? haha.  Today we also went with some friends from music class to the park. The kids enjoyed Chick-fil-A and wandering around the park and baseball field. It was hot...I think summer's coming!

Marty Shaeffer, CFA (almost)

Image
Marty passed Level 3 of the CFA!!! We are over the moon over here! He's worked hard to pass these tests and he did it! Now he just needs 3 years of work experience, but the hard part is over. Go Marty! Here are some cute pictures from today! Peek a Boo! Boo Boo

Hodge Podge

After workout class this morning, Emi and I had Bowen and Brye B. over for a playdate. Bowen is almost 3 and Brye is 6 months old. It feels like just yesterday that we were watching Bowen when Kimber was in the hospital having Brye! Even though he's 6 months, he still feels little to me:) During our playdate, Emi and Bowen enjoyed having 2 lunches each (they're both good eaters) and I enjoyed getting baby snuggles in. Right after they left, I quickly put Emi down for a nap and then the Stake RS President came over. We have ward conference coming up, and as part of that she's supposed to meet with me. She's brand new and really nice so it was chill.  In the afternoon we ran some errands, and pretty soon Marty was home.  2 Chefs In the evening I went to our YWs activity--a nerf gun war! And then we met as YWs leaders afterwards. By the time I got home, I was ready for bed!

Emi Nuggles

Image
I was kind of dying at how cute Emi's outfit was today (thanks for the cute overall jumper, Ings!).  Emi cuddled with me after her nap and I thought I might be in heaven. I love Emi "nuggles." We went to the library with Summer, Ronny, and Jules today. It's been awhile since we've been there...it was good to be back!

Art and March Madness

Image
We had a lot going on today! In the morning we went to Chuze and My Gym. Then we headed back for lunch and nap time. Emi slept for over 2 and a half hours (!), and when she woke up we had Summer, Ronny, and Jules over for an art project.  It was a lot of fun and also messy.haha. I'm trying to learn how to embrace the mess and just enjoy the process. After the art project the kids played while Summer and I just chatted. Emi's piece of art. Emi doesn't like to wear her own bows, just Jules'! Shortly after friends went home, Marty showed up and Madison H. came over to babysit. Marty and I headed to a ward March Madness party fora bit and then came home for Rosen family book/recipe club. After book club, the March Madness game finished and UConn won (Boo!). If Purdue would've won Marty and I would've won the family March Madness bracket. But hey, there's always next year!

General Conference Weekend

Image
Growing up, my mom always made cinnamon rolls for General Conference Weekend. I've been too intimidated by the recipe to make them up to this point, but finally decided this was the year. They were time consuming, and didn't rise as much as they should've, but they were delicious. After a phone call with my mom, I'm ready to try them again! In between conference sessions we spent time at the park. It was windy this weekend! My favorite talk was Elder Uchtdorf's about finding " A Higher Joy ." I always love talks that have stories in them, and Elder Uchtdorf's a master story teller. I also loved his message of hope and that God can bring more joy into our lives if we let him. On Sunday evening we had the Bob and Kathleen D. family over for dinner. It was fun getting to know their family better and having an excuse to make a nicer meal. We also did our usual game night with Peter and Alex. It's crazy they're having a baby in just over a month!

Running

Image
My Thursday running crew changed their run from 5:15 am to 6:15 am today so I agreed to go. 7 miles later and my body was kaput. I think I need to run more distance before running with the group again!  Running with Kevin=free chocolate milk. Dad and Emi at the park this evening.

Just Because

Image
I got a "just because" card in the mail from Moe today. It was the perfect pick-me-up, and reminded me that the simplest things can make the biggest difference!

Cheesin'

I had a dentist appointment today, which meant Emi got to go hang with Ronny and Jules P. Aren't these 2 the cutest friends? *Ronny is also very cute but not pictured*

Emi Rose

Emi and I are back on our usual Monday routine! I go to my workout class in the morning while Emi goes to the kids care, and then we hurry home, get ready for the day and head to My Gym.  Emi's becoming quite the monkey! She can hang on the monkey bars for 5-10 seconds at a time now. And she loves walking on anything that resembles a balance beam. She also loves going down slides over and over! It's so fun to watch her grow and learn new things. Her vocabulary has also been exploding. It seems she's picking up at least one new word a day. Some new words she now says are battery (bably), socks, shoes, and bye (she used to just wave for bye, but now she says it).  It's amazing! She also said Bluey this morning. I'll spare you her pronunciation on that one. haha. Emi also loves bubbles and her new car. That's all she wants to do. Which seems nice in theory, but it's an involved process for mom and dad. She wants you to push her for a few seconds, let her get ou
